GHOST NET BUSTERS

In the Marmara Sea, we have been removing the nets that have been abandoned deliberately

or unintentional by fishermen for years and continue to trap and kill marine life passively.

We find the locations of Ghost nets using drones, making survey dives in accordance with recognized diving limits, lift and remove the nets with lifting bags. So far over 29.000m2 of ghost nets has been removed.

We recycle and reuse the nets recovered wherever possible. Some of the nets are used in agriculture and farming to protect plants and crops and some are recycled/upcycled into net bags by the local women on the island.

In this way, sustainable life is supported, women's employment is supported with the income obtained here and some of them are donated to stray animals.

By the end of 2020 our work on recycled products from ghost networks had started.
