Until 2021, the society operated under this name and then underwent a rebranding process to adopt its current structure, aiming for more inclusive goals. To date, it has engaged in various activities in the Marmara Sea, including the transplantation and conservation of corals endemic to the Mediterranean, the removal of ghost nets from the seabed, biodiversity monitoring, the protection of species and habitats, and the preservation of underwater culture and heritage.
The principle of our society is to aim for the sustainable and equitable protection of marine life through scientific studies and projects. Our structural dynamics encompass equality, justice, sustainability, respect, and integrity. With these values, we:
-
Develop projects in harmony with nature,
-
Adopt inclusive policies free from discrimination,
-
Incorporate diverse perspectives in our projects,
-
Respect nature and all stakeholders during cooperation,
-
Promote decent economic growth,
-
Ground our work in scientific research and contribute to science.
As an organization, we wholeheartedly embrace these values.
About Us
The Marine Life Conservation Society (Deniz Yaşamını Koruma Derneği) was founded on 9 September 2015 in Heybeliada, originally under the name Adalar Denizle Yaşam ve Spor Kulübü Derneği (Islands Life with the Sea and Sports Club Association). Our Society continued its activities under this name until 2021, when, in line with broader and more inclusive goals, we underwent a rebranding process and adopted our current identity.
We mainly operate in the Sea of Marmara, focusing on the transplantation and protection of corals endemic to the Mediterranean, the removal of ghost nets from the seabed and their repurposing, biodiversity monitoring, the conservation of species and their habitats, the safeguarding of underwater cultural heritage, and initiatives in art and sustainable design.
